A worker at a Dassault factory responsible for assembling the Rafale fighter jet has been arrested on suspicion of espionage in France.
The arrest took place at the Dassault plant located in the city of Cergy, according to a report by the Militarnyi portal. The 19-year-old man, who was born in France, worked on the assembly line of the Rafale fighter jet at the company’s factory.
According to the RTL channel, the man was seen wearing glasses capable of recording video. He is suspected of undermining the nation’s fundamental interests, meaning espionage on behalf of a foreign state.
After his detention, the man was interrogated at the factory before being taken to a police station for a more detailed investigation conducted by the General Directorate for Internal Security (DGSI).
Authorities now seek to establish the exact circumstances of the incident, including whether the employee actually filmed the Rafale production process and if he intended to pass the material on to third parties.
